The literature of HCI is vast and varied: from comprehensive "handbooks" to specialized offerings on topics as esoteric as "interface metaphors" and "the psychology of menu design". The literature is also rapidly growing and changing. New studies often bring into question the basic assumptions of earlier ones. Many early sources, however, outline the basic questions and issues, and so continue to serve as standard references.

In this bibliography we list only a small selection of the available resources on HCI. While an attempt has been made to be representative, only sources of direct interest to authors of interactive instructional texts have been included. Notable features of each reference are highlighted in the annotations.

The listings are chronological, then alphabetical by author.
