This text summarizes, in the form of basic principles, a small part of the vast literature on the subject of human-computer interaction (HCI). Its focus is on those principles of interface design that the authors of instructional computer-based texts are most likely to find useful. The principles apply equally to materials written for presentation, classroom use, or display on the Wold-Wide Web.

The principles are presented in three sections, according to their source:

Psychological Principles from psychological studies
Graphic Design Principles from art and design sources
Evaluation Principles from educational studies
