Plotting points and Guessing the Correlation

Your screen will have a scatterplot along with choices for samples. Begin by using a sample size of 15 . Enter RESET. You should see dots on your scatterplot. Record your "Guess" in the box and hit "ENTER." Then hit "SHOW TRUE CORRELATION."

Record the difference between your predicted and the actual correlation.

RESET and begin again.

1. Complete this process at least 25 times. How often did you over estimate your correlation? How often did you underestimate your correlation?

2. Did your accuracy improve after the 12th trial?
3. Find the average of the absolute value of your differences?
4. Complete the process again 25 times and record your new average?
5. Compare your change in accuracy. Explain in detail.
