Installing XPPAUT
We recommend the freely available software program
XPPAUT, which was developed by
G. Bard Ermentrout of the University of Pittsburgh
Department of Mathematics. Roughly speaking, XPPAUT consists of two main components: XPP is a tool for numerical
solution of differential equations, difference equations, delay equations, functional equations, boundary value
problems, and stochastic equations. AUTO is "software for continuation and bifurcation problems in ordinary
differential equations".
Installation tips:
- First, open the official XPPAUT website by clicking here (opens link in a new browser window).
- Scroll to the bottom of that webpage and you will see links for installation of XPPAUT for the Windows, Mac
OSX, and Linux operating systems. Note: At the top of that webpage, there is a link for installing XPPAUT on
an IPad.
- If you plan to install XPPAUT under the Linux operating system then,
depending upon which distribution of Linux you are using and/or your level of experience with Linux, you may
wish to contact your system administrator for assistance.
- If you plan to install XPPAUT under Windows, follow this link (opens in a new browser window). You will see a list of five easy steps for
installation. TIP: Step 1 asks you to install an X-server called XMing to run under Windows. Click
here for a more up-to-date version of
that X-server. When you install XMing, be sure to do so under the C:\Program Files directory. Once you have
done this, the remaining installation steps should work like a charm.
