Maori Dance

A highlight of the Auckland Museum is the Manaia Cultural Performance, presenting narrative, song, and dance of Ngati Whatua O Orakei, the home tribe of the Auckland area. The performance is first announced outside the performance hall by men playing the nose flute and conch shell. Included in the performance is audience participation in the Poi dance, with one person from each nation represented in the audience. Dorothy represented the USA on the day of our visit.
