Math 627 Algebraic Geometry

Course Synopsis. Classification of complex algebraic surfaces; divisors, line bundles and sheaf cohomology; vanishing theorems and embedding theorems; additional topics (such as residues, Chern classes and spectral sequences) as times allows.

Prerequisites. Math 602 (Introduction to Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry) and 625 (Riemann Surfaces).

Reference material. Complex Algebraic Surfaces, by Beauville; Principles of Algebraic Geometry, by Griffiths and Harris.

Lectures. Tuesday and Thursday, 11:45am - 1:00pm, Physics 205. No phones, computers or similar devices permitted.

Course Grade. Based on weekly assignments.

Grade complaints. If you think an assignment or exam was graded incorrectly you have one week from the time the graded assignment was returned to you to bring the issue to the instructor's attention. No complaints after that time will be considered.

Make-up policy. An exam may be made up only in one of the following University-defined situations: Illness, Personal Emergency, Bereavement, Religious Holiday or Varsity Athletics. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves will the University's policies in these situations, and for following the procedures outlined therein.
