Managing extensions

To sort installed extensions:

You can set the way you view extensions in the Macromedia Extension Manager by clicking a column heading (such as Version, Type, or Author).

For example, to sort alphabetically by author's name, click the Author column. To reverse the order of the sort in Windows, click the column heading again; to reverse the order of the sort on Macintosh, click the sort-order button at the far right of the row of column headings.

To enable and disable installed extensions:

If you have installed large numbers of extensions by using the Macromedia Extension Manager, you can selectively enable and disable extensions to help manage the application's performance.

In the Macromedia Extension Manager, select the check box in the On/Off column next to the extension you want to enable or disable, or select the extension and press the spacebar. A check mark in the On/Off column next to the extension indicates that it is enabled. No check mark means that it is disabled. When you disable an extension, it is re-packaged for future use and stored in a folder within the Configuration folder. To re-enable the extension, select the check box in the On/Off column next to the extension in the Macromedia Extension Manager.

Note: If you want to remove an extension that has been disabled, use File > Remove Extension. Do not manually remove extensions from the Disabled folder. If you do, necessary changes to your menus.xml file will not be made.

To remove an extension:

1 In the Macromedia Extension Manager, select a Macromedia application (such as Flash) from the pop-up menu listing your installed programs.
A list appears, showing the extensions currently installed in that application.
2 Select an extension from the list of installed extensions.
If an extension doesn't appear in the list, you can't remove it.
3 Choose File > Remove Extension. Confirm that you want to remove the extension by selecting Yes in the confirmation dialog box.
The extension is removed.
To obtain more information about an extension, write a review of an extension, or find more extensions:

In the Macromedia Extension Manager, choose File > Go to Macromedia Exchange. The Macromedia Exchange Web site appears in your browser. In this site, you can look at information about any posted extension, write reviews of extensions you've used, and search for and download a wide variety of extensions.

To create and submit a new extension:

You can create your own extensions for others to use. Guidelines for writing and testing your extension are on the Macromedia Exchange Web site. In the Exchange site's Help menu, choose How to Create an Extension and follow the guidelines for developing an extension.

Once you have written and tested your extension, in the Macromedia Extension Manager, choose File > Create Extension. After you've created the extension and you are ready to submit your extension to the Exchange, choose File > Submit Extension.

To report a bug in an extension:

In the Macromedia Extension Manager, choose File > Go to Macromedia Exchange. The Macromedia Exchange Web page appears in your browser.

In the Macromedia Exchange site, find the extension you want to report a bug for, and go to that extension's discussion area. Post a step-by-step description of how to reproduce the bug.
